Bombers' Financial Decline

As some of you may know, I've recently been thinking of moving on from my team Lancaster Bombers due to the very restrictive situation I find myself in.

Being in debt means I can't buy any new players or employ any new staff, which means I can't improve my team. I have plenty of good players who are not maxed out on any skills that could no doubt benefit from better quality coaches.

I've tried selling players to make some money but I never get any bids. Perhaps I'm overpricing, I dunno. Whatever.

I've taken a look at the financial history of the club and notice that in season 6, my first season in the premiership, my ticket sales were 4,262,470. Last season though, season 9, they were down to 2,811,180. Quite a difference. As my club rating has gone down, demand for tickets has dropped off. I've reduced my ticket prices down to around 23 from 29 or 30 from season 6. I must say I don't think I should need to reduce ticket prices below 20 to sell out. I am in the premiership after all. I look at other clubs and see ticket prices in the 40's.

Anyway, here's a screenshot of my financial history:

Disturbing huh?

I'm gonna try and get my ticket price up. After spending a lot of last season renegotiating contracts, I don't need to worry about any of those this season.

Thoughts?

I've just compared your finance history to mine. Up until the end of season 5 we were pretty close to each other. When you won the Championship and we both moved up to the Premiership our finances were practically identical - I had 3,028,996.
Since then, however....man you really have had a rough time.

Overpricing your players? Very probably. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet to get things moving and if that means selling for 75% of their value then so be it.

As I've said elsewhere, you need a lot of luck where the transfer market is concerned. You have to list players that other managers happen to want at that time. Have you tried looking at other teams' squads to see where they may be a bit light and you maybe have a player that can fill a gap for them and then have you PM'd the manager? Have you ever done any of that Webby?

Attendances. Do you remember in Beta testing when a certain manager had a right rant about ticket prices/expansions/attendances?
This was ronmanager's reponse at the time (25 September 2006)

‘Lets look at your situation.

Your last game you got 6800 and 985 oversubscribed at a ticket price of 10.
You expanded and got an attendance of 8074 which is and increase of 200 or so more than your previous fan base. Perhaps this was partly due to a ticket price reduction, and perhaps it was partly due to an increase in your ratings. Either way you are not happy with your growth.

So we could look at some of the underlying factors at work.

Attendance is related to club rating, how big your club is. Simply dropping your prices may induce some extra fans, but the fan base grows overtime, it does not react immediately. Attendances are trend based, you make adjustments and have to realise their impacts over time.

Prior to opening your new ground, did you toy with your ticket price, and try to find the sweet spot? The sweet spot moves as the club improves. My point here is that say for example, your fans are willing to pay 20 credits a ticket, well if thats the case then altering the ticket price from 10 to 8 wont really make much difference. The fans are already enjoying a cheap price as they see it.

…….

Football clubs are not money making machines, many aim to break even and all but the very best do rely on transfers to keep afloat.

Attendance, has other factors too, not just the quality of your club, but also the quality of the opposition, the competition your in, the time of the season etc’
Do you remember that Webby? Does it help any? Have I gone completely OTT?

Thanks pleasant. No, I don't remember that. Was it me?

Not sure if it helps any, and no you're not going all OTT on me.

I'm gonna tinker with TP's a bit and see how it goes. If I look at vacancies and feel that making them good will take 4 or 5 seasons, then I may stick with the Bombers. We'll see.

Cheers

No it wasn't you Webby. It was a manager then known as Andagain.

I really do hope you stay with the Bombers but then again I'll understand if you decide to change.

Good luck mate.
